Library events to celebrate 20 years of Refugee Week 2018

Refugee Week 2018

For Refugee Week, Libraries NI will be running a number of events to focus on the experiences and lives of refugees.

The library events will vary in content from photographic exhibitions and an exhibition showing people’s kindness to refugees through to storytelling workshops and a bridge building workshop.

Refugee Week takes place every year across the world around World Refugee Day on the 20 June. This year the organisers are inviting everyone to do one (or more!) of 20 Simple Acts – one for each year of Refugee Week. Simple Acts are things everyone can do to show support for refugees and anyone can take part in Simple Acts; you can find out more on the Refugee Week website.

Jim O’Hagan, Libraries NI Chief Executive said:

“Libraries NI is proud to be part of the Refugee Week 20 year celebrations and we will continue to work with other government organisations to help support refugees.

“Libraries provide a safe place for people to connect with others, with learning and with cultural experiences through events and through books. These events will help people gain a brief insight into the plight for many whilst also building essential bridges of support in local communities.”
