Central Library to take Centre Stage on Culture Night

Libraries NI is delighted to be supporting Culture Night Belfast, which will take place on Friday 23rd September.

Events in Belfast Central Library will form part of the overall Culture Night line-up and will include a diverse mix of free exhibitions, performances and workshops.

Patricia Walker, Libraries NI Culture Manager, said:

“Libraries NI is proud to be part of this unique celebration of arts and culture of the city of Belfast. The programme in Central Library is second to none and provides a perfect example of the types of events and activities that take place in libraries across Belfast and indeed Northern Ireland on a regular basis.”

The events in Belfast Central Library will kick off early evening with a performance from the cast of Horrible Histories 3D who are taking time out from performing at the Grand Opera to treat the audience to an excerpt of a live performance from one of the two astounding shows – The Awful Egyptians and the Ruthless Romans.  This is followed by special rhyme time and story time sessions for families with young children and also a puppet version of ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker” – an adaption of the much loved Brothers Grimm classic fairy tale.

Music fans will be treated to a piano recital from local pianist and composer Jeremy Mearns Doherty and the Broken String Band will play some traditional, raw acoustic Appalachian music at its foot tappin’ best!

Local author Glenn Patterson will also be in the library to read from his work and take questions from the audience.

During the course of the evening professional library staff will be on hand to provide advice on how to trace your family tree and use online resources.

Please note that entry to all events will be on a first come first served basis.
