  • 'Your Working Life' Roadshow Coming to Coleraine Library
    Libraries NI is delighted to announce that one of a series of 'Your Working Life' Roadshows will be taking place in Coleraine Library on Thursday 16th February, from 10.00am 3.30pm.
  • BBC Experience in Enniskillen
    Enniskillen Library is the destination for the BBC Experience, a new series of interactive roadshow events at locations across Northern Ireland. The BBC Experience comes to the library on Tuesday 7th February from 10am to 4pm.

  • Attwood launches educational waste books on 17th Jan in Whiterock Library
    Environment Minister Alex Attwood joined a storytelling group in Whiterock Library to launch the Rubbish Monster book series. The Minister, who enjoyed a storytelling session with a group of 4-8 year olds, took the opportunity to join the group to listen to the all-new series of Rubbish Monster books.

    A Big Book Sale is taking place in Derry Central Library (35 Foyle Street, BT48 6AL) on Monday 30th January from 10.00am - 4.00pm and on Tuesday 31st January from 10.00am - 3.00pm.

  • Additional Funding Impacts on Library Opening Hours
    Following DCAL Minister Carál Ní Chuilín's announcement of £2.39m additional funding this week, the Libraries NI Board at today's meeting (19 January) approved revised proposals arising from the Review of Opening Hours across Northern Ireland.

    Culture Minister Carál Ní Chuilín today announced the appointment of a Chairperson to the Board of Libraries NI.
  • Library Users Win Northern Irish Competition
    Three library users have won an online competition which tested their knowledge on all things Northern Irish. Ruairi Kirk, Gabrielle O'Neill and Glenn McKibbin won the Britannica and Libraries NI Christmas Quiz Competition after correctly answering 10 challenging questions on Northern Irish history, geography and sports.

  • Review of Library Opening Hours Announced
    The Board of Libraries NI agreed at its meeting today (Wednesday 21st December) to defer the decision regarding the findings from the Review of Library Opening Hours public consultation until January 2012.
  • 'The Life of The Lough' - Photographic exhibition in Dundonald Library
    Libraries NI is pleased to announce that Dundonald Library will be the venue to host 'The Life of The Lough', a photographic exhibition by Co Down photographer, Bernie Brown ARPS, which will be on display in the backwall gallery of the library, for 7 weeks, from Wednesday 4th January Friday 24th February 2012.

    Author Tony Macaulay paid a visit to Ballymena Book Buddies on Monday 5th December 2011. Tony Macaulay delighted the invited guests with an extract from his book 'Paperboy', which is a memoir of his childhood in Belfast in the 1970s. 'Paperboy' is described as an enchanting true story of a Belfast paperboy coming to terms with the Troubles.

  • Shankill Library celebrates official opening
    Wednesday 7th December marked the official opening of Shankill Road Library, which reopened at the end of May, having been closed for four months for major extension and refurbishment work. To mark the occasion, a celebration was held in the library and was attended by an array of high profile dignitaries, including special guest, DCAL Minister Carál Ní Chuilín, who performed the official opening of the library and author, Tony Macaulay.

Entrants can log onto the Encyclopaedia Britannica section of the Libraries NI website either in the library or from home between 2nd and 9th December.
  • Carrickfergus celebrates library's official opening
    Wednesday 23rd November marked the official opening of Carrickfergus Library (2 Joymount Court) which reopened in March 2011, after a huge refurbishment programme which lasted seven months and cost £1.1million.

  • Whiterock Library Celebrates Refurbishment
    Libraries NI held a day of celebration, on Friday 11 November, to mark the official opening of the refurbished Whiterock Library. The new-look library opened its doors earlier this year following an ambitious programme of improvements. The refurbishment project, which was funded by DCAL, cost approximately £458,000 and took 3 months to complete.
