Libraries NI Board Decision in September

The Board of Libraries NI hopes to a make a decision regarding the findings of stage two of the Strategic Review at their September meeting.

September is the Board’s preferred option as this will ensure as many members as possible are in post for the decision and that sufficient time is available for those affected by the elections to scrutinise the conclusions of the review and the public consultation process.

Due to the elections, some Board members who are councillors will cease to be members on the 5th May 2011. If re-elected as councillors, their reappointment to the Libraries NI Board will be a subject of consideration for the Minister of Culture, Arts and Leisure and we anticipate that this matter may take a few weeks to be finalised. The September meeting should facilitate this process whilst also allowing Board members adequate time to review the findings and feedback received.

Dr David Elliott, Chairperson of Libraries NI said:

“We are very grateful to everyone who responded to the consultation process and we want to thank the large number of people who participated. This has generated a significant amount of information which is being collated for analysis and we want to assure you that the Board values these responses. ”
