Invitation to visit the Village of the Year’s Library

Last month, Broughshane was named 2010 Calor Village of the Year and located in the centre of this winning village is Broughshane Library, which forms a focal point of the community.

Broughshane Library boasts a beautiful garden, which has also contributed to the winning of other awards for the village, including the Best Kept Awards, Ulster in Bloom, Britain in Bloom and Europe in Bloom.

During the adjudication for ‘Village of the Year’ judges called into the Main Street Library where they chatted to staff and remarked on the free library services people in the village can avail of. As an award wining village, Broughshane is recognised for its strong community involvement and links with local groups and the library aims to contribute to the lives of local communities, by offering a place where people of all ages can come along and enjoy free reading and information services.

Callers to Broughshane Library will be impressed by this bright and friendly library, which offers a wide range of books, audio books (on tape/CD) and a range of DVDs to hire.
Broughshane Library also offers a special programme of “Start…” sessions on Tuesday evenings, which are free to library members and designed to help you find out more about computers. You can book your place on “Start Computers”, “Start Email” and “Start the Internet” and in one hour, you will carry out a series of basic step-by-step exercises to start you on your way with computers, internet and email.

Broughshane Library holds free events and activities during key periods of the year, for people to enjoy. The annual Christmas lights switch on in Broughshane will take place in the grounds of the library on Friday 26th November at 7pm and everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the carol singing and the Village of the Year’s Christmas illuminations.

Beth Clyde, Broughshane Branch Library Manager, said:
“Libraries NI is committed to providing a first class library service to local communities, by providing a central hub for learning, information, culture, reading and heritage and here in the Village of the Year, we are delighted to offer a range of free services in Broughshane Library.”

To become a member, bring along a form of identification to the library during opening hours: Tuesday from 2pm – 8pm, Thursday and Saturday from 10am – 1pm and from 2pm – 5pm.
