About the Big Summer Read

The Big Summer Read takes place every year in public libraries across Northern Ireland – that’s 96 libraries and 16 mobile libraries!

It’s free to take part and the programme offers fun and interactive ways to keep kids reading during the summer holidays.

Children age 15 and under can call into any library during July and August to take part. A reading chart and record card will be given to every child on their first visit and children are then invited to read as many books as possible recording each book on their reading chart.

At the end of the summer, they will receive a special certificate in recognition of their reading achievement.
