Dr. Patricia Marsh PhD from Queens Univeristy, Belfast, has delivered lectures on the Spanish Flu in the UK and Ireland. Her talk on the Centenary of the outbreak will focus on the pandemic as it affected Antrim and Down.
This worldwide influenza pandemic reached every corner of the globe, killing an estimated fifty million people and over seven thousand in Ulster alone. It was the greated medical holocaust in history and her talk will outline the causes, how it spread so quickly worldwide and why it remained forgotten until recently.
This fascinating topic will appeal to all who are interested in history as well as health.
