Becoming A Member

Welcome to Libraries NI

NOTICE FOR NEW MEMBERS:

After the recent changes to the computer system (April 2023) new library members who join online should use their membership number “UNREGXXXXXXX” to access the Libby and BorrowBox apps. However, if you have called into a library and received a library card then please use the membership number on the card to log in, “1000XXXXXX”.

You can join online in a matter of minutes, get a membership number and start to download eBooks, eMagazines, audiobooks and eNewspapers straightaway from this website. Just simply complete the online form on this page, choose your own four number pin combination (please note this) and you will receive your membership number. If you want to use your membership to borrow books from a library you can call to your local branch and they will provide you with a membership card. This card will have a new membership number and this new membership number must be used for accessing online services (eBooks, eMagazines, audiobooks and eNewspapers) and Wi-Fi as the previous one will no longer be valid.

Remember to complete online form on this page and note that all fields on the form need to be completed.

Libraries NI offers opportunities for all members of the community to access a range of free services.

Whether you’re looking to borrow books or need help to get online, a quiet place to study or a place to chat and meet new people, you have come to the right place.

There are 96 branch libraries, two specialist libraries and multiple mobile stops across Northern Ireland. All of which provide a range of resources for people who live, work or study here.

Branch libraries offer book borrowing, free Wi-Fi and computer use, printing and photocopying facilities as well as social activities and training courses. Some also have study space and access to special heritage collections.

Join

Library membership is free and you can join at any age. Simply visit any library. For children and young people under 16 who wish to join, you will need to visit a library as the joining form needs to be signed by your parent/guardian. You can find your nearest library here.

Once you’re a member, you can use your library card in any public or mobile library in Northern Ireland – one card does all.
