Libraries NI and Fighting Words NI are teaming up as part of the Wild World Heroes, Summer Reading Challenge this summer to help young writers unleash their creative superpowers at FREE workshops led by creative writing mentors.
The two-hour long workshops will take place via Zoom on Friday 23 (event on the 23 July is fully booked) and 30 July as well as Friday 6 and 13 August 2021 from 10:30am and are open to writers of all abilities aged 8 – 11 years. In this fun and interactive workshop, children begin by working as a group to write part one of a brand new story, focussing on original characters, settings and adventures. In the second part of the workshop each child individually decides how the adventure will unfold, supported by a team of writing mentors. After permission has been received from parents/carers, completed stories will be published online by Fighting Words NI and Libraries NI.
Let’s get our superpower imaginations together and invent heroes who defend the environment!

The Wild World Heroes Summer Reading Challenge presents lots of opportunities to get out and about and explore the great outdoors. Along the way, you will no doubt come across some of nature’s finest wildlife you might like to photograph to show your family and friends at home. To help you take the best pictures possible, we have teamed up with photography tutor, Paul Crawford who is inviting you to learn how to take better pictures with your smartphone.
