Libraries NI presents Women in Triathlon on Thursday 26 January via Zoom

Libraries NI is delighted to launch a brand new initiative, Give It A Go, during February with a programme of events to encourage and inspire people to try something new or to learn a new skill.

Whether you are trying to be more active, read more, improve your health and wellbeing, learn something new or take up a hobby, local libraries across Northern Ireland will have something to offer.

During February over 100 free events will take place in more than 60 libraries across Northern Ireland.

To start the Give It a Go programme, on Thursday 26 January there will be an online event to inspire people to try a triathlon with Triathlon Ireland’s Women in Sport Advocates Diane Cordner and Eilish Harvey who will tell us all about their experiences and journeys in the sport.  During the event Diane and Eilish will discuss the Triathlon Ireland’s Women in Sport programme, how to get involved and many more practical and inspiring tips and stories. This will be a great opportunity for anyone who has an interest in trying a triathlon but maybe has been reluctant to give it a go. The session is free to attend and you can register here!

Other events will begin in February and topics include creative writing, photography, exercise, knitting, yoga and dance well as classes to help get online, family history workshops, craft sessions and chess for beginners.

Jim O’Hagan, Libraries NI Chief Executive said:

“Libraries are places of learning and places of sharing with others in the heart of local communities. With such a varied programme of events on offer, there is something for everyone. So whether you’re a library member, or you haven’t in a library for years, I would encourage you to come along with a friend, or family member, and support and encourage each other to Give It a Go.”

All events are free to attend but booking is advisable by contacting your local participating library. For details on the full programme go to

You don’t have to be a member to attend events but if you do join you can borrow books, use computers and access the internet for FREE.  You can join online in a matter of minutes, get a membership number and start to download eBooks, audiobooks, eMagazines and eNewspapers straightaway. To borrow physical books you can call in to your local branch and our staff there will provide you with a membership card.
