Killyleagh Library to launch Seed Library
Published 29 Mar 2023
Killyleagh Library invites you to come along on Wednesday 19 April from 6:00pm until 7:30pm for the launch its new Seed Library.
The library is using repurposed card catalogue furniture to provide a seed lending library for customers. Gardeners are encouraged to borrow seeds from the library at planting time and then, at the end of the growing season, save seeds from the plants and return some of them to the library. The aim is to develop a cycle of ‘Borrow, Grow and Donate’, in the local community and to work with gardening groups to bring the pleasures of growing from seed to a wider audience.
Debbie Gillies from True Harvest Seeds will be at the launch to provide practical advice on how to store seeds, and how and when to plant them.
Sarah Sweeney, Branch Manager of Killyleagh Library, said:
“Anyone with an interest in gardening is welcome to come along. The seed library will be stocked on the night and we will be encouraging people to take seeds home with them. This is the beginning of something very exciting and the library’s collection of gardening books will provide further support. We hope our borrowers will keep us updated as their plants begin to grow and maybe even send us some photographs!”
The launch of Killyleagh Library’s Seed Library will take place on Wednesday 19 April from 6:00pm until 7:30pm in Killyleagh Library. Everyone is welcome and tea and coffee will be served. For more information contact the library on 028 4482 8407 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
