Omagh Library presents StoryTrails - Two days of fun for all the family!

Come along to Omagh Library on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 July to discover a range of exciting augmented and virtual reality experiences for all the family to enjoy.

Explore the area’s untold stories inside the library through a virtual map made up of 3D models and audio recordings of local community members.

Venture outside to take part in an immersive StoryTrails walking tour, where a free app will guide you around the places where history happened, bringing the events to life before your very eyes.

There will also be a series of library events for all the family to enjoy taking place on both days -

Friday 1 July

11:00am – 11:45am

Performing Starz Puppet Storytelling with Jo Britland.

Join storyteller Jo Britland for an interactive puppet storytelling event for children aged 4 – 7 years. Jo Britland is an experienced Dance and Drama teacher and storyteller. As well as taking her weekly classes, Jo and her puppets have taken part in many special events including the Stendhal Festival and the Northern Ireland Science Festival.

Computer Coding Session

For 8 - 11 years.

2:00pm – 3:00pm 

Lego eBook creator workshop

Calling children aged 8 – 11 years!  Here is your chance to create your own story in Lego…and make it into an eBook as well.  All you need is your imagination in this exciting workshop where you will plan your story, stage it in Lego and use it to create an eBook - from your own ideas you can become an author!

For children aged 4 – 7 years.

Must be accompanied by a parent/carer.

11:00am – 12 noon

Circus 250

Join us in Omagh when Juanita, a star from Circus250, will treat children of 8 – 11 years to an interactive ecology show! Juanita will use music, dance and clowning to encourage the children in the audience to come up with their own innovative and imaginative answers to plastic pollution. Juanita’s Talk is an important, urgent and utterly hilarious show full of hope for our future.

2:00pm – 2:45pm

Storytime

Storyteller Vicky McFarland, in conjunction with the Armstrong Storytelling Trust, will entertain children 4 – 7 years with favourite tales from her exciting repertoire.  

Vicky is a children's storyteller, writer and producer of numerous audio collections. In 2017 she won the National Literacy Trust's short story prize and has written for the BBC, Onebillion.org and Anorak Magazine. 

2:30pm – 3:30pm

Spiders

A reading from Charlotte’s Web, followed by hands-on activities designed to help children learn more about spiders, and to see how scientific concepts are reflected in stories and in the world around them. For children 8 – 11 years.

StoryTrails, is a one-of-a-kind experience where untold stories from the past are brought to life using augmented and virtual reality and the voices of the local community.

 

As the UK’’s largest immersive storytelling project, it will change the way we tell stories about ourselves, animating public spaces across the UK and inspiring a national conversation about who we are and where we are going.

Libraries NI has announced Summer Opening Hours across the network of libraries which will take effect from Monday 27 June until Saturday 3 September 2022. Many customers use the library differently over the summer period and therefore the opening hours have been adjusted accordingly. The main change is that late night openings beyond 6:00pm from Monday to Friday will not be available.

Libraries NI is very excited to launch this years ‘Gadgeteers’ Summer Reading Challenge. Join the ‘Gadgeteers’ for a special science-themed Challenge that will inspire children to keep reading during the school holidays and use their imagination and creativity! Presented by The Reading Agency in partnership with Science Museum Group and delivered by libraries, the Challenge will take place from 25 June until 3 September in all public and mobile libraries across Northern Ireland.
