The Decade of Centenaries: ‘The Somme:a wasteful bloodbath or the key to victory’ by Philip Orr, historian, author and playwright.

As part of the Decade of Centenaries, Philip Orr’s illustrated presentation will consider the impact of the battle of the Somme (which continued from 1July to 18 November 1916) on the outcome of WW1and will reflect on whether it was a ‘wasteful bloodbath or the key to victory’as the casualties on both sides were immense. This presentation will appeal to historians as well as the general public.

This group aims to allow everyone’s reading experiences to be shared and enjoyed.

This is a drop in group with the Book of the Month being put on display in the branch the month before the discussion. There is no need to ‘join’ – just pop in when it suits if you have enjoyed the book – or even if you haven’t!
