Grown Ups

Grown Ups by Marian Keyes

A really entertaining easy book to read. The main thing that annoyed me from the outset though, the blurb says Cara gets a concussion and blurts out all these truths and what ensues as a result is chaos for the whole family. However, we don’t actually get to that part until page 555, so we have to read through months and months of Casey family drama first. Obviously, it all makes sense now that we have got to know the family and what’s what, but it is kind of misleading and a let-down. The book only has less than a hundred pages to go after that, so it’s not like there will be much of an aftermath, the story and drama all happen beforehand!

Nonetheless, I did enjoy the book and there are lots of the Casey family to like and hate in equal measure. As the story developed though, I started to dislike Jessie more and more, she is a very selfish and judgemental person, especially to her poor suffering husband Johnny.

How Ed dealt with his wife’s illness was kind of baffling. I get the whole enabling her thing, but to do what he did was just unforgivable in my opinion.

Really hated Liam from the first to last page and loved Nell (kind of obvious they're not compatible)

I did not like that the ending (8 months later) told us nothing about Nell or Jessie’s kids, especially Ferdia. What became of them?!!
