Bookcited! and the Women’s Fiction Prize

I can’t believe that we have now recorded over 100 episodes of our Bookcited! podcast.

It has been great fun organising it and interviewing authors as well as getting to know other members of staff and chatting to them too. Because we record online we have been able to talk to authors further afield too such as Adrian McKinty in New York and Anthony Horowitz in Crete – with the internet the world is our oyster! In the 100th episode Pete and I chat with Sian and Conor about our favourite interviews and how our reading has diversified from the genres and authors we are more comfortable with. I must say that I have learnt to appreciate the appeal of other genres such as Sci-Fi and Japanese Fiction through the research we do for the episodes - but as Sian says in the podcast the books you go to read over the holidays are generally where your ‘happy place’ is!  If you haven’t listened to the Bookcited! podcast yet – now is your time!

Book cover image of Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins ReidRegular readers of this blog will know that I read widely and recently have enjoyed Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid – essentially a love story against the back drop of the 1980’s space shuttle programme. The new intake of wannabe astronauts are put through their paces in a bid to become the next to be chosen to go into orbit with thrilling, and page-turning, results. I have also enjoyed The Correspondent by Virginia Evans which has been longlisted for the Women’s Fiction Prize recently along with others including a couple of Booker nominated titles -Audition by Katie Kitamura and Flashlight by Susan Choi.

Heart the Lover by Lily King is also nominated – and is my next read.

The shortlist is announced on 22 April with the final winner being made known 11 June. I wonder how many of the nominations I will manage to read before then?
