Time for a cosy holiday read

As the better weather approaches and we begin to focus on holidays many readers tend to reach for their comfort books – the less challenging and highly entertaining titles that help pass a peaceful Sunday afternoon or an overseas flight if they are lucky enough to be jetting away. The Cosy Crime market has never been so well provided for with a multitude of authors in competition for recognition and acclaim.
Few can dream of reaching the heights of Richard Osman though – his Thursday Murder Club series has far outdone any expectations and his new book, We Solve Murders is the start of a new series and is reaching a younger audience now as well. His seemingly effortless style is so accessible, with the latent humour, quickfire comments and clever plotting adding up to great entertainment.
Robert Thorogood’s recent series is into its fourth book now with Murder on the Marlow Belle. This series is based in the small town of Marlow on the banks of the Thames featuring a group of three women who have accidently fallen into solving murders alongside the local police force. This story features a Marlow Amateur Drama Group party aboard a barge that goes wrong and the amateur sleuths are on hand to help when a body turns up.
I’m excited to announce too that Anthony Horowitz will be on our podcast soon – and with his Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders up in the Cosy Crime charts too it will be great to chat to him. The clever mix of time periods with a lost chapter from a manuscript, a murdered author of said manuscript, his editor not to mention a fictional detective Atticus Pund who regularly materialises to guide the editor with the investigation. It sounds chaotic but it all adds up to a great read and I’m really looking forward to meeting the author. Watch out for the podcast episode sometime before the summer.
Short stories are ideal for travelling too and talking of fictional detectivesGreat for your fix of the Agatha Christie favourite – and did you know that we have lots of her titles available now on the Libby App? Perfect for reading by the pool or out in the back garden!
