Voices from the War Memorial: Lisburn and the Second World War in Northern Ireland

Each year, the Second World War becomes more distant as the voices of those who lived through it are lost to time. Oral history offers a powerful way to preserve these memories, giving us a unique insight into everyday life in wartime Lisburn.

Join Michael Burns, Research Officer at the Northern Ireland War Memorial Museum, as he introduces NIWM’s Oral History Collection and shares personal recollections from people who experienced the Second World War in Northern Ireland. From the Belfast Blitz and wartime rationing to the American presence and the celebrations of Victory, these stories bring the past vividly to life.
