Holidays Notice and Latest Service Updates

Libraries NI Christmas Holiday period will run from Monday 22 December to Saturday 27 December 2025 inclusive. Libraries NI will reopen to customers on Monday 29, Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 December with all libraries closing at 5:00pm on each of these days. Library opening hours vary, so please check our website for full details for your local library. 
All libraries will be closed on Thursday 1 January 2026 and normal opening hours will resume on Friday 2 January 2026.

Rhythm and Rhyme  
Every Thursday from 10:30am to 11:00am.

Rhythm and Rhyme sessions introduce parents and children aged 0 - 4 years to the wonder of rhymes, songs and stories.

Each session offers an entertaining opportunity for children to engage with others, provides a good foundation to develop their reading, listening and language skills and of course to have lots of fun!

First Saturday of every month beginning from 10:30am – 11:30am.

Tea and Newspapers  

Every Saturday from 2:30pm to 4:00pm.
 

Tea and Newspapers groups give adults the opportunity to meet new people, socialise and discuss local and national affairs in the newspapers while enjoying complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits.

Storytime  

Weekly, every Tuesday from 3:30pm to 4:00pm. Suitable for ages 4-8 years.

Storytime sessions help children develop a love of books, improve their listening skills, inspire creativity and feeds their imagination. Join our friendly staff as they read popular books and introduce children to a whole range of different authors.

Every Thursday from 3:00pm to 4:00pm
 

For children aged 4 - 10 years. All children must be accompanied by a parent/carer.
Come along to have some lego building fun. Fun and creative ideas for things to make and build.

Family Knitting Club  

Second Saturday of every month between 10:30am – 11:30m.

 

Are you ready to learn about knitting? Then come along to Kilrea Library and enjoy our family knitting group where are staff will teach you the beginner skills on the art of knitting.

Adult Reading Club  

Third Tuesday of every month from 6:30pm – 7:15pm

 

This group aims to allow everyone’s reading experiences to be shared and enjoyed. Participants don’t have to be library members but if you join, you can borrow the book the group will be discussing for free.

Junior Reading Group  

Third Saturday of every month between 12:00pm – 12:45pm.

 

For children aged 7-9 years, come and join our monthly Junior Reading Group. This group is a fun way for children to be introduced to a wide range of new books, authors and to make new friends along the way. Members are asked to read a chosen book before each meeting, which will be available to borrow for free from the library catalogue.

Brew Monday on Saturday!  

Join us in Kilrea Library as we host our Samaritans Brew Monday event but with a twist - it will be on a Saturday. Come along and enjoy a nice cuppa with a sweet treat on offer as we connect together and chase those winter blues away.

Burn's Night - 'Draw the Loch Ness Monster' Craft  

Kilrea Library invites children aged 4-8 years to come along and get into the Burn's Night spirit with our fun filled 'Draw the Loch Ness Monster' craft. Join our friendly library staff, as they demonstrate how you can draw your very own 'Nessie' monster. Then using our selection of craft resources available, be sure to add a splash of monster colour to your design.

Holocaust Memorial Day - 'Moments of Reflection' Coffee Afternoon  

Kilrea Library invites you to come and join us for a coffee afternoon, as we take time to reflect and remember on Holocaust Memorial Day. Over a cuppa, be sure to view our 'Moments of Reflection' book display detailing a collection of authentic stories and memories as we join together to remember this moment in time.

 

Everyone Welcome from 2:00pm - 3:00pm.
