Rhythm and Rhyme  
Every Wednesday at 12:30pm
 
Rhythm and Rhyme sessions introduce parents and children aged 0 - 4 years to the wonder of rhymes, songs and stories. Each session offers an entertaining opportunity for children to engage with others, provides a good foundation to develop their reading, listening and language skills and of course to have lots of fun!

Tea and Newspapers  

Every Thursday from 10:00am - 12 noon.

 

Tea and Newspapers groups give adults the opportunity to meet new people, socialise and discuss local and national affairs in the newspapers while enjoying complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits.

Mindful Colouring  

Enhance your well-being and calm the mind through relaxed meditative colouring. A gentle way to reduce stress using intricate colouring patterns and designs.

Adult book club  

The Adult Reading Group for 16's and over gives an opportunity for adults to discuss their latest book.

Storytime  
Every Thursday from 3:00pm - 3:30pm.

Storytime sessions help children aged 4 - 8 years develop a love of books, improve their listening skills, inspire creativity and feeds their imagination. Join our friendly staff as they read popular books and introduce children to a whole range of different authors.

Knit and Natter  
Every Friday from 11:00am - 1:00pm.

Knit and Natter groups are for adults who enjoy knitting, crochet, cross stitch and other crafts. They are free of charge to attend and participants have the opportunity to share hints and tips, swap patterns, meet new people and learn new skills. Members can bring along a project they are already working on or can start something new.

Children's Chess Club  
Join Whiterock Library for a new chess club, suitable for children aged 8+. Beginners are welcome to learn a new skill from an experienced chess tutor. Chess can improve problem solving skills and develop strategic thinking.

Letters to our Elders  

Write a letter to an elderly member of the local community. Your letter will be delivered through Ardcomm to older people living in Whiterock and the surrounding areas who are alone or isolated. You can draw a picture, tell them about life, school, or whatever you get up to as a young person in West Belfast.

Meet Kubo the robot!
Learn the basics of coding with an interactive game that helps Kubo get to school, play football and go to the shops.

Why do birds suddenly appear?  

Build a bird’s nest to put in one of our trees. Check back throughout the summer to see if you have any little guests! Learn about the science of flight and why birds migrate while you create their summer home.

Which leaf comes from which tree? Use leaf printing with paints to make your own leaf identification chart so that you can see for yourself on your next summer stroll.

Come to Whiterock library for the great mushroom takeover! Make your very own mushroom hat, learn some fun facts about fungi, find out what animals live on mushrooms, and read “The Mushroom of Doom.”

Should we disturb the fairies?  

Did you know that we still have fairy trees in Ireland? Come to Whiterock library to listen to ancient Irish stories about trees. We will be making a rag tree so that you can tie a ribbon or cloth and ask the fairies for blessings… if you dare!

Noise and Tea break – A sensory reset event  

Join us in Whiterock library for a sensory reset for all ages. Is the hustle and bustle of the Fleadh getting too much for you? Do you need some quiet time to breathe, have a cup of tea, and engage is some low stimulation sensory activities? We will have a pop -up sensory tent, autism and stim friendly resources, and of course tea and biscuits for all. Suitable for all ages and abilities and including a sensory Storytime for our younger patrons.

Join us for a special game of BINGO. Guess who lives in a tree, flies at night, eats nuts, and more to fill your card and win the game.

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s a LIBRARIAN!  

Have you ever wanted to design your own superhero? Well we’ve found out that there are trees being destroyed all over the world and one of our librarians is their only hope! There’s one big problem though; they don’t have a superhero outfit. Can you help us design and make one? You can make the design choices and our other librarians will bring your creation to life.

In the deep dark wood…  

Whiterock library has become an enchanted forest overnight, and we need some brave adventurers to travel through to get the books on the other side. Create your very own adventuring character, and travel through the deep dark wood across the library (and in your imagination!) to help us break the spell and rescue the books.
