Dear Alexander,

I was very glad to get your letter the other day, but was very much surprised at your address. They certainly did not let you stay long in Athlone.

I hope you are liking the life, and not finding it too hard.

With regard to your position, I brought the matter before the Committee, and, as I expected, they had no power to grant you any allowance, but were most sympathetic with regard to giving you an opening when you return from service, if it is at all possible to do so.

I hope you will write me whenever you have a little time, and let me know where you are, and how you are getting on, as we always like to know how our boys who have gone into the Army are doing.

Wishing you every success,

I remain,

Yours truly,

JBG
