Dear William Brown,

I duly received your letter of the 3rd inst. 2 and had been wondering when I was going to have some word of you. I received some of your Post Cards but I really did not know where to write to: you did not give me a sufficient clue as to either your regiment or where you were. I am sure you are feeling the cold very much at this time of the year and hope you have plenty of warm clothing to withstand it.

I have not had a letter from McCausland for some months and was wondering how he was getting on. The dry, Boney post cards that I receive from him and yourself only say you are quite well, with your signature. Of course one is always glad to hear that you are quite well but it does not convey very much more.

Captain Simpson3 is in Yorkshire and Captain Coulson is somewhere in France or Belgium. Captain Coulson is second in command of his battalion.

I have not heard lately of Lieutenant Warren. I have had some very good letters from Fitzsimons at different times.

That young man, Eagleson, if you see him, you might give him a shaking up about not writing me.

We are all well here and wish you a very happy Christmas and happy New Year.

Yours truly,

Signaller W. Brown 2839,
1st N.I. Horse,
'D' Squadron,
7th Coy.,
B.E.F. France.
