Dear Sir,

I am in receipt of your letter of the 17^th inst., ²⁰ re. the discontinuance of half-pay allowance which your Committee have been paying me for the past six months on behalf of my late son, Wm Brown, killed in action in France on 12^th August last.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Library Committee for their very great kindness and generosity, and at the same time I wish to express my sincere gratitude to yourself and your staff for your very kind expressions of sympathy and good wishes. I will ever recall with feelings of gratification the friendships formed by me dear son when employed in the Central Library, and through my great sorrow, I feel proud that he died doing his duty for his King & Country.
