Dear Sir,

I am in receipt of your letter of the 17th inst., 20 re. the discontinuance of half-pay allowance which your Committee have been paying me for the past six months on behalf of my late son, Wm Brown, killed in action in France on 12th August last.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Library Committee for their very great kindness and generosity, and at the same time I wish to express my sincere gratitude to yourself and your staff for your very kind expressions of sympathy and good wishes. I will ever recall with feelings of gratification the friendships formed by me dear son when employed in the Central Library, and through my great sorrow, I feel proud that he died doing his duty for his King & Country.

I am, Dear Sir,
Yours faithfully,
John Brown
