Dear Mr Elliott,

I have just time for a few words before going on parade again, & there is really little to tell you beyond mentioning my safe arrival here. My quarters are exceeding comfortable, the mess admirable, & the other fellows seem to be really companionable & willing to help.

Our work is certainly very hard. We parade for physical drill at 6.30, breakfast 7.45, instructional parade, 8.30 Lunch 1.0, instructional parade 2.0-5.30 then we are free for the night. We all dine together at 7.45.

Our parade in the morning is in Phoenix Park where we have plenty of room for manoeuvres. My men are fairly good but my company commander is rather a 'bother'. The Colonel is a thorough soldier & gentleman.

As time goes on & our work shows any change doubtless I shall be well in harness but at present our drill is quite different to ordinary infantry drill & I am rather at sea. However, one lives & learns.

Please remember me to Mrs Elliott & your family. With kind regards & renewed thanks for for your many kindnesses.

Yours Sincerely,

T. Coulson

My address is simply T.C., Esq., Wellington Barracks, Dublin.
