16th Royal Irish Rifles,
30th Sept. 1915

Dear Mr Elliott,

Try as I will I cannot keep pace with my correspondence. Since leaving Seaford I have been a few odd days at Bordon, a week at Mytchett, Bisley & Cowshott, & a few more odd days at Hankley Common, where we finished today with an inspection by the King & Kitchener.

Tomorrow night we leave for France, where from all accounts we have more time to spare than here & I hope to write you more regularly of the doings of our army from there.

The thing I may tell you is this. The present happenings are the beginnings of the advance which has been ordered to be pursued without regard to losses. I happen to know that our War Office think that there is a chance of reaching the Rhine before the present movement is checked. I don't suppose this Division will take any part in the advance except as reserves.

Please tell Goldsbrough that I will write to him as soon as I can, but recently we have been desperately hard worked.

Best of good wishes to you all,

Sincerely Yours,

T. Coulson.
