Dear Mr Elliott,
Just a few words to let you know that I am still alive. Unfortunately I am just waiting for an ambulance to take me to the hospital. The constant immersion, almost to the waist, for the past six days in water has proved too much for some of us. For four days I have had a temperature of 104!
Every thing is fairly quiet here just now but of course one never knows what it means. One thing is certain if we are to win we must show every nerve & no available men ought to be allowed to remain at home. The Balkan situation has every appearance of having been a good opportunity neglected, & now we are having to pay a high price for our neglect. I dare say the intervention of Bulgaria will prolong the war considerably. Certainly the line in front of us will require a tremendous amount of preparation before we can hope to take it. But of the two I think I would rather be in ours.
I hope you are quite well, though I know it is a trying time of the year for you. My kind regards to you all.
Sincerely yours,
T. Coulson
