Dear Captain Coulson,

I was glad to have your letter of the 7th inst., 93 but was sorry to hear that you were just on the way to the hospital. Of course it is no wonder that your temperature was at 104 under the circumstances prevailing in the trenches. I really don't know how the men stand it as they do - up to their waists in water.

Recruiting is very brisk about here, and it looks as though Lord Derby's scheme would be successful in getting the required number of recruits so as to save conscription.

I do hope you have got over your fever, and are progressing towards complete recovery.

Another one of our youths from the Lending Department has joined the Colours, namely - Trooper Wm. Brown. Also Mr. Deane94 's young assistants, Samuel Freeland, making altogether nine members who are serving under the Flag.

With kind regards,

I am,

Yours sincerely,

CHIEF LIBRARIAN

Captain T. Coulson
16th Batt. R.I.R.
British Expeditionary Force
