Letter
30th March, 1916
Dear Captain Coulson,
I have received a letter from the Town Clerk in reference to a Local Government Emergency Provisions Bill, now before the House of Commons, which strictly defines the allowances that can be legally made by local authority to employees who are serving with the Colours.
I am instructed to compile a list of the members of Libraries' staff who are serving with H.M. forces. Among the queries that I have got to answer are the two following which I must ask you to answer to me:-
2. The Army or Navy pay received at the commencement of your service with H.M. forces.
3. The separation allowances received by your dependents from the Government.
In answering question No. 2. Please state your present Army pay as well as that received when you joined.
Please answer these queries as early as you possibly can.
I am
Yours very truly,
