Dear Goldsbrough,
I am sending by this same post but under a different cover a letter resigning my position with your staff. I have been now definitely retained in the army of occupation & may not be released for some considerable time. I am as a matter of fact anticipating having to go to Turkey on intelligence work. Meanwhile I am doing duties as gas officer as so few qualified men volunteered for this job some of us were appointed without us being consulted & I found the job awaiting me here immediately I came up to Germany about ten days ago but my transfer has only just gone in.
I am sorry in some ways because if I have got to make good in civilian life again a few years delay may mean a very great difference to me because I am not getting any younger. Yet on the other hand there is a great doubt whether affairs over here are quite ended & it will be some slight satisfaction to be here when the wind up does take place. I hope that you are now getting the changed staff settled down into their places & as the opportunity must come round I hope that your temporary appointment will be permanent.
As I have now officially resigned my post may I also (officially,) offer you my very best thanks for your kindness & assistance which date from the very first day of my arrival in Belfast. I shall remember you & your family with gratitude. Will you also thank Miss Miller153 , Gourley154 & Moore155 for me.
Please remember me to Mrs Goldsbrough, Miss Smyth156 & the boys & be sure always of my sincere friendship & gratitude.
I hope to come to see you some day soon because I have by no means turned my back on Belfast & the many friends I have there.
With kind regards & good wishes.
Sincerely Yours,
T Coulson
