Dear Sir,

I most humbly beg your pardon for not writing to you since I had your answer to my last letter. Truth to tell I haven't had an hour to spare these last three months. I have been up at the trenches for some time, and there is absolutely no opportunity of letter-writing there, no matter how anxious one is to do so. However Sir things are a bit slack now, and I am taking the opportunity to write you. This ambulance was attached to a Division of the Regular Army for the past 3 months but we have now gone back to our own division the 36th. We did some very good work whilst we were attached, and we were specially complemented by the G.O.C. We had our first casualties yesterday, 3 men and an officer being wounded. Indeed we have been very lucky considering the work we have to perform. I was speaking to McCausland a few weeks ago, he was in hospital suffering from varicose veins & I believe they eventually got to the base. I expect to be home on furlough soon, and I am anxiously looking forward to it. It is a very long and tiresome journey but it is well worth the travelling to live 7 days of civilisation. I will call in to see you and explain my former neglect in not writing you. I could do it better verbally. I hope Sir you are keeping in good health as for myself I never felt better in all my life.

I Remain
Yours Sincerely
J.F. Eagleson
