Dear Mr Goldsbrough,

Many thanks for your welcome letter received this afternoon. I hope that you are enjoying first class health, as for myself I never felt better in my life. Yes we have had our share of the frost out here also, for six weeks constant it freezed56 night and day. I am very sorry to hear of Mr Elliot's death57 , it was indeed very sudden. When I was speaking to him last month I didn't think for one moment I never would do so again in this world.

When do you think this blessed old war is going to end, the general opinion out here is that it will end this summer. Of course everybody wants to be optimistic, it doesn't pay to be pessimistic.

So Capt. Coulson is about to take unto himself a French lady. I know for myself I haven't met a girl out here I would put in front of an Irish or English girl. I like to know what they are talking about, but I suppose he learnt French in his younger days. I must close now as it is time I was making down this so-called bed of mine.

Hopeing58 to hear from you.

I Remain
Yours Sincerely

J.F. Eagleson

J.B. Goldsbrough, Esq.
