Dear Sir,

Your very kind and most welcome letter received this morning. I am still in the same spot, and waiting very anxiously for something doing in the way of demobilisation. Pardon me asking you sir, but can you please tell me if my release has been applied for, on the grounds that my place is being kept open for me. I see a lot official news in the papers saying that employees claimed by their employers will be be amongst the first to be demobilised, so naturally sir I am bit anxious. I am pleased to hear that everybody is escaping the flu. The natives here have caught it rather bad, but so far none of the white troops have fallen victims to it. You wish sir, to know where these men come from. They all come from the British West Indies & a few from Panama, U.S.A. We had rather a good time at Christmas considering our isolation but I feel happy when I realise that it is my last one in the Army. Five in succession are quite sufficient for me. I hope Sir that you are enjoying the best of health & I don't think I am too late in wishing you a happy & prosperous New Year. My kindest regards to all.

Your obedient servant,
J.F. Eagleson
