Dear Mr Goldsbrough,

I have delayed writing to you in the light of soon being able to state when I expect to get home definitely. As things stand now I hope to get home for Demobilisation any time next month, but I am not certain of this. Every week brings out fresh orders re demobilisation so that one can never be certain as to one's position on the list. The whole system is just like a game of chance. One week the order is "demobilise the men with the longest service", this means I will be home soon. Then when my hopes are brightest the orders are changed to "married men to go first". This order leaves me dejected and guessing and so on. However sir, I expect to be home towards the end of April. I sincerely hope your family and yourself have escaped this awful influenza plague.

My mother has been seriously ill with it but thank God the latest letter from home states that she is much improved and out of danger. For myself I am in my usual good health though living with and nursing "Flue" patients.

Kind regards and best wishes to yourself and all the old Central staff.

Yours very sincerely,

Joe Fitzsimons
