Dear Sir,

I received your letter & am very sorry for not being able to let you have the desired information at an earlier date. I was not quite certain of the amount of the allowance being paid to my mother and had to write home for it.

In answer to the question numbered 2. The army pay I received at the commencement of my service was 1/2 per day. Since then I have been granted Corps Pay, which brings the pay up to 1/6 per day. These sums include the 6d per day which I have allotted to my mother.

Question No 3.

The money received by my mother from the Government, amounts to 7/1 per week, of which as I have already mentioned, 3/6 is contributed by myself.

You will be pleased to hear that I am now thoroughly well versed in the work which an R.A.M.C. private is supposed to know. The Corps Pay to which I have referred, is an extra 4d per day, which is granted to us, if we successfully pass an examination in the different subjects. In fact we are ready for Overseas, having been supplied with the Oversea Kit. - Identification disks, Gas helmets etc -. Once more apologizing for the delay, which, I sincerely hope has not caused you any inconvenience.

I remain,

Yours very faithfully

S. Freeland
