Dear Mr Goldsboro',

I must apologise for not writing sooner but I was kept so busy, that I had scarcely a minute. We had a lively time here, this week. Every night an attempted air raid. The Germans have to come this way in order to get to London. They got through on Mon & Tues night creating quite a lot of damage. John Bull's place was blown to pieces and it was in his "air raid shelter" that all the people got either injured or killed. There is a lot of talk about it. Since Xmas 27 attempts have been made, all failing except those 2. It's very exciting hearing the shrapnel bursting all round: quite a comforting prelude of what is before us. I was on "mob" 3 times for overseas and have been turned down but I think I will be off, Wed next, for France.

I have no more news at present except that the food problem is very serious over here, in fact more acute than the papers make out.

Please except203 my heaviest good wishes, and remember me to Mr Gourley etc.

Yours faithfully,

Pte P. O'Rourke
