Dear Sir,
In answer to your letter of 8th inst. 205 I wish to thank you for your kind wishes, and express my regret in being unable to let you know the possible date of my demobilization.
I have been trying so hard to get my discharge since my arrival here, all to no purpose, and did not care to write you, until I could send you some definite information.
Up to the present I have met with no success, still Joseph Devlin has kindly taken an interest in my case, and is at present in communication with the War Office and has promised me news soon, which I will forward to you immediately I receive it. Feeling has been very sore here over the muddle the War Office have made of the demobilization as it seems to be the general opinion that a more efficient system should have been in force.
The local authorities met this feeling by despatching most of the malcontents overseas thus cleansing themselves of any noisy element that would mar the calmness of our quiet home. So things go on as ever, and we all "carry on" - hoping - for it does not do for one to be gloomy; the weather being so good, helps to charm any ill feeling we may have away. Yet I still long to get back.
I am very pleased to learn of W. Moore's appointment, also that all the old faces are reappearing again.
Hoping it won't be long till I number myself amongst the lucky ones. With kindest regards to you and all at the Library. I remain sincerely yours,
P. O'Rourke
