Ballynahinch Library Celebrates 50th Birthday with Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support
Published 24 Sept 2024
Ballynahinch Library is turning 50, and we're inviting everyone to join us in celebrating this milestone! On Thursday 26 September from 10:30am to 1:00pm, we are hosting a spectacular birthday coffee morning to commemorate our 50 years of service and raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Whether you're a former staff member, a longtime customer, or a new face in the community, come along for a cuppa, indulge in delicious treats, and take a trip down memory lane with our special ‘50 Years of Ballynahinch Library’ display. This event is the perfect opportunity to reconnect, reminisce, and support a great cause.
Ballynahinch Library first opened its doors on 5 March 1974 and was the first public library in County Down to offer gramophone records for public borrowing. The loan period was three weeks, with overdue book fines of 1p per day and 2p per day for overdue gramophone records. Our dedicated team back then included Miss M Hamilton, Mrs. Ruby Hunter, Mrs. Evelyne Bovaird, Mrs. Doreen Earls, and Geraldine Hagan.
"We're excited to celebrate this golden milestone with our community," said Pamela Dickson, Ballynahinch Branch Library Manager "It’s a chance to honour our past, celebrate the present, and look forward to the future. Plus, it's all for a great cause!"
Don’t miss out on this special celebration. Come along and join us in Ballynahinch Library for a memorable day filled with joy, tasty treats, and nostalgia.
