Beginner’s Guide to DNA to take place at Lisburn City Library
Published 09 May 2023

DNAIf you’re interested in how DNA tests can help trace your ancestry then come along to Lisburn City Library on Thursday 25 May from 6:30pm until 7:30pm for a Beginner’s Guide to DNA and Heritage.

Martin McDowell from the Northern Ireland Family History Society (NIFHS) will be in the library to discuss the various types of DNA tests available and will talk through how they can help when tracing your family tree.

Susan Browne, Lisburn City Library Branch Manager explains why this event is a must for those starting out in tracing their family history:

“We are so pleased to bring this event to Lisburn City Library.  Researching a family tree in Northern Ireland back beyond 1800 can be hard due to the loss of many of the census records and parish registers that are traditionally used as sources in other parts of the world. That makes new methods of gaining information, such as DNA, particularly useful.

“The NIFHS has embraced DNA research and Martin is extremely knowledgeable on the testing available. During the event guidance will be provided as to how DNA can be used to uncover stories of your family’s past and perhaps find relatives you never knew existed.”

This is a free event and booking is essential.  To book a place telephone 028 9266 9345 or email lisburncity.library@librariesni.org.uk
