An exhibition of paintings, drawings, printmaking, pressed plants and found objects that merge the beauty and science of botany, horticulture and art. 

For almost 200 years Belfast Botanic Gardens has been the heart of horticulture in the city. From exotic plants native to deep Amazonian jungles to ornate Victorian bedding displays, the history is rich. 

This exhibition explores these themes through a variety of media to express how the subject moves the artist. From detailed botanical illustrations and pressed plants to visceral oil paintings showing the motions of time and seasons, plants in their glass landscape or vistas across the gardens.

As part of our programme of free workshops aimed at supporting parents and carers of children with special educational needs, Specially Connected are offering practical advice and support for parents and carers who are navigating the rewards and challenges of raising a child with additional needs. It will cover the following topics;
Understanding Conditions: Insight into the most prevalent neurodiverse and additional learning needs
Behaviour & Communication: How these conditions may impact a child's understanding and impact behaviour at home
Practical Strategies: Simple, effective ideas to support your family routines and help develop shared understanding and communication

Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask the facilitator questions of their own.
 

This event is funded by the Department of Education as part of the RAISE programme, a whole community and place-based approach to tackling educational disadvantage in 18 localities across Northern Ireland, supporting the Department of Education’s vision that “every child and young person is happy, learning and succeeding”.

This illustrated talk by David Dunlop shows the stages in the hand production of books, using techniques and tools that have been used since olden times. 
Working on books, some dating back to the 1500's, David will show how collections are surveyed, cleaned and repaired, preserving original features and protecting these artifacts for years to come. 
Step virtually into the bindery, folding paper, paring leather and proudly placing the finished book back on the shelf for others to enjoy.

Japanese-born Storyteller Masako Carey has been living in rural County Antrim since 2001. She has shared stories at festivals, in schools, libraries and museums.

Children's Writing Fellow for Northern Ireland Stephen Daly will be discussing his latest book ‘The Last Death Poet’. Described as ‘a bold and audacious mix of coming-of-age story, Irish history and supernatural thriller’, Daly's masterful Young Adult debut focuses on troubled teen Michael whose new life in Belfast is haunted by mysterious visions connected to his father's disappearance.

Join us for an insightful talk exploring the devastating impact of four Luftwaffe air raids carried out on Northern Ireland in Spring 1941.
