With a focus on fostering community, promoting lifelong learning, and providing essential digital skills, our libraries are perfect places for older people to connect, learn, and thrive.

Positive Ageing Month is an opportunity to highlight the important contributions that older people make to society and raise awareness of the issues and challenges of ageing in today’s world.

Libraries NI understands the importance of staying active, both mentally and physically, as we age. Our libraries across Northern Ireland offer numerous social events and activities specifically tailored for older adults, ensuring that everyone can find something that sparks their interest.

  • Social Events: From book clubs and Knit and Natter sessions to coffee mornings and Tea and Newspapers, our libraries host a variety of social events that provide opportunities to meet new people and enjoy shared interests in a friendly and welcoming environment.
  • Digital Skills Learning: In today's digital age, staying connected online is more important than ever. We offer Go On and Got IT? Computer sessions to help older adults learn how to use computers, tablets, and smartphones. Whether you want to send an email, video chat with family, or navigate the internet, our knowledgeable staff are here to assist you every step of the way.
  • Health and Wellbeing Programs: Our libraries provide access to a wealth of resources focused on health and wellbeing. Join us for mindfulness sessions, armchair exercise classes, and informative talks and events that support a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • Lifelong Learning Opportunities: Libraries NI is committed to promoting lifelong learning. Explore our extensive collection of books, eAudiobooks, eBooks and eNewspapers, or take part in one of our educational events designed to stimulate your mind and enhance your knowledge.

Positive Ageing Month is the perfect time to explore all that your local library has to offer. With a diverse range of activities and services, Libraries NI is dedicated to supporting older adults in leading fulfilling, engaged, and connected lives.

Paul Kelly, Libraries NI Senior Services Manager said: “We are proud to offer a variety of services and programmes that cater to the interests and needs of older adults in our community. Libraries are more than just places to borrow books—they are vibrant community hubs where people of all ages can learn, socialise, and thrive. We invite everyone to visit their local library during Positive Ageing Month and discover the many free services and resources on offer.”
