Bobbin LaceAs part of Heritage Week, Ballymena Central Library is inviting the public to explore the fascinating world of bobbin lace - a traditional craft once used to decorate clothing as a symbol of wealth and status. The event, facilitated by Patricia Cummings (North of Ireland Family History Society, Branch Secretary) will take place on Tuesday 11 March 2025 from 10:30am to 12:30pm, offering a unique opportunity to watch lacemaking in action and try this historic craft for yourself.

With just thread, bobbins, and a pillow, lacemakers have created intricate designs for centuries. This hands-on session will introduce attendees to the cloth/whole stitch, an essential technique in bobbin lace making. Whether you're a craft enthusiast, a history lover, or simply curious to learn something new, this mindful and rewarding hobby is suitable for all ages.

Lacemaking is a beautiful heritage craft that has been passed down through generations. This event offers a fantastic chance to see traditional skills in action and even take the first steps in learning them. It’s a relaxing and creative pastime that anyone can enjoy.
