Find Your Focus with Libraries NI

With exam season fast approaching, Libraries NI is reminding students of the power of focused study—and why libraries provide a great environment to get exam-ready.
As pupils begin to prepare for upcoming assessments, finding the right space to revise becomes crucial. Libraries across Northern Ireland offer a place for students to study away from the potential noises and distractions of busy lives. With dedicated study areas, free Wi-Fi, and calm surroundings, they are an invaluable resource for students who need to get in the zone.
That’s why, for those struggling to concentrate at home—amid noisy siblings, the pull of social media, or everyday distractions - libraries offer a focused, hassle-free space designed for learning. Many branches provide late-night and Saturday opening hours, giving students more opportunities to fit focused study into their routine. Whether tackling coursework, practising past papers, or studying in a group, they will find a space tailored to their needs.
Libraries NI Chief Executive Dr Jim O’Hagan believes libraries are great places to study. He said “Libraries NI offers a network of 96 locations across Northern Ireland where students can study with free Wi-Fi access in a supportive environment. Many of the libraries also offer late nights and weekends to help avoid the distractions of family members and busy homes. We invite students to make the most of these spaces and our range of resources to support their studies during this busy time.”
Recognising that revision can be stressful, libraries also offer books and resources on mindfulness, stress management, and exam techniques.
The Libraries NI website also provides access to Open Learn, part of The Open University’s (OU) free learning site which is an open educational resource, offering over a thousand courses and 15,000 hours of educational interactives, videos, articles, games and more.
Students are also encouraged to step away from their studies for short breaks—whether by reading something relaxing, practising breathing exercises, or simply enjoying a moment of quiet—before returning to their work feeling refreshed and ready to focus.
