Libraries NI invites P1–P3 pupils to take part in a FREE World Book Day story and drawalong session
Published 19 Feb 2026
Libraries NI is inviting Primary 1–3 pupils across Northern Ireland to take part in a special online interactive story and drawalong session to celebrate World Book Day.
Taking place on Thursday 5 March at 10.30am via Zoom, the live session will be led by author and illustrator Johnathan Sung, creator of the picture book Moon Moon Can’t Sleep!

Designed especially for younger primary pupils, the session combines storytelling with live illustration. Children will listen to a short story, watch the illustrator draw in real time, and draw along step by step, adding their own creative ideas as the session progresses.
The focus of the session is on listening, imagination and participation rather than reading ability, making it suitable for mixed-ability classes, whole-class participation and home learning. Pupils are not required to read aloud, and no preparation is needed in advance.
Teachers and parents are encouraged to see the event as a simple, creative way for children to take part in World Book Day, offering a shared experience that supports early literacy, creativity and enjoyment of stories in a calm and accessible format.
The session is suitable for Primary 1–3 classes as well as homeschool families, and all that is required is paper, pencils and access to Zoom.
