Libraries NI Joins BBC Radio Ulster’s Peter Cinnamond Show for Summer Book Club Feature
Published 30 May 2025
Libraries NI is delighted to share that Jillian McFrederick, Libraries NI Stock Manager, is bringing the joy of books to the airwaves as she joins BBC Radio Ulster’s brand-new Peter Cinnamond Saturday afternoon show.
Packed with summer vibes, feel-good music, and celebrity interviews, the show also features a new segment called Northern Ireland’s Newest Newlyweds, where Peter chats with couples fresh from exchanging vows.
Running throughout the summer until mid-August, the Summer Book Club will bring listeners a range of book recommendations, covering a different genre each week. From bestselling cosy crime and gripping thrillers to historical fiction and contemporary reads, the segment will offer something for every type of reader.
Listeners can also look forward to features on local authors and tips on accessing books in different formats – including eBooks and eAudiobooks, available free from Libraries NI and plenty of inspiration for listeners looking to enjoy a good book this summer.
Jillian said: “It’s a great opportunity to showcase just how much libraries have to offer. Whether you're a regular reader or haven’t picked up a book in years, there’ll be something to spark your interest and hopefully encourage more people to explore what’s available in their local library or online.”
“I fell back in love with reading a couple of years ago,” says Peter. “Now, whenever I think of summer, I picture myself in the garden or on holiday with a book in my hand. Let’s be honest, I’m more of a casual reader - Jillian’s the expert. But between us, we make a pretty good team!”
With titles drawn from Libraries NI’s wide-ranging stock, the segment highlights the essential role libraries play in promoting reading and making books accessible to everyone.
Tune in to the Peter Cinnamond Show every Saturday from 4:00pm – 6:00pm on BBC Radio Ulster, BBC Radio Foyle and BBC Sounds to get your next great read—and discover what’s new in the world of books.
