Libraries NI Launches Learn @ Lunch: A New Series of Lunchtime Workshops
Published 08 Nov 2024
Libraries NI is excited to announce the launch of Learn @ Lunch, an online learning programme designed to fit within a lunch or coffee break. Starting in November 2024 and running until March 2025, the programme will offer twice-weekly, 30-minute sessions covering the essentials of creative writing and photography. Accessible to all skill levels, Learn @ Lunch is an ideal opportunity for people across Northern Ireland to learn something new or develop their skills with practical guidance from experienced instructors.
The first series, beginning on Wednesday 13 November, focuses on creative writing with a unique exploration of climate fiction. Author Byddi Lee will lead the ten-session series, guiding participants to create compelling stories that address climate themes. Through these sessions, participants will learn to incorporate essential climate science into their writing, crafting narratives that inspire positive environmental change.
“Libraries NI is committed to providing opportunities for learning that are accessible to everyone,” said Libraries NI Chief Executive Jim O’Hagan.
“Learn @ Lunch is an example of how our libraries continue to support personal growth, skill-building, and creativity for people of all ages and backgrounds. By making these workshops available online and during convenient midday times, we’re bringing new learning opportunities to more people than ever.”
The first ten-session series will run every Wednesday and Friday from 13 November until 13 December, covering climate fiction. This initial series will be followed by a photography course starting in January 2025, with another creative writing series on science fiction planned for later in the spring. Details of these will be announced soon.
Registration is now open for the climate fiction series and Libraries NI encourages anyone interested in creative writing, regardless of experience, to sign up here
