A collage of photos including a lighthouse and sea vesselsWarrenpoint and Kilkeel Libraries are pleased to host the ‘Celebrating 200 Years of Haulbowline Lighthouse Photo Exhibition.’ This special exhibition will showcase a collection of photographs featuring the iconic Haulbowline Lighthouse, the scenic Carlingford Lough area, and the historic Newry Canal.

The exhibition will be displayed in Warrenpoint Library from Thursday 20 June to Saturday 29 June, and then in Kilkeel Library from Saturday 3 July to Tuesday 9 July. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the rich history of the lighthouse and the surrounding area through a series of photographs and accompanying information.

Haulbowline Lighthouse shone its first light in September 1824. The construction was prompted by complaints that the existing shore-based Cranfield Point Lighthouse inadequately marked the channel and dangerous rocks at the entrance to Carlingford Lough. Standing 34 meters tall with eight floors, the lighthouse once housed accommodation for three lighthouse keepers.

This free exhibition is open to all members of the public, and everyone is welcome to attend during normal library opening hours.
