Ask NO Questions

Ask No Questions by Claire Allan

A very enjoyable easy book to read. I liked the connection that Ingrid Devlin had with everyone from her past, where she grew up in Derry and now still lived. When she was ten and Kelly Doherty was eight and Kelly was murdered after going out on Halloween night. It changed the lives of all those children, Ingrid and the Heaney twins, Declan and Niall included.

Twenty-five years later and it is the anniversary of Kelly’s murder and Ingrid believes the claims of innocence from the man who served 17 years for the murder. Jamesy was a young man back then, a bit different, but he liked to chat to the kids as they walked past his house. Was he harmless or was there something more sinister about him.

But someone does not want Ingrid interfering and bringing it all back up again, her car and home are vandalised. Someone is clearly hiding the truth, but who?

I had my suspicions as to who was responsible for the murder, and I hoped that it was not a certain person as I did not want the story to go down that path, it would be too predictable. But I am glad to say that that was not how things unfolded. There were many unexpected events and twists in the story to come.

The ending was sad in many parts and for a lot of people. You cannot really say that justice was served.
