Termination Shock by Neal Stephenson
What would happen if we fired a sulphur-based rocket high into the atmosphere as a means of reversing climate change?
And what would happen if we then abruptly stopped this process?
The result would be termination shock – a strong reaction to the sudden withdrawal of this operation.
A fascinating projection of climate change and of efforts to forestall the total melting of the ice-cap, this novel is rich in geographical detail, international politics, engineering procedures and computer modelling.
It is also amusing at times, entertaining and very thought-provoking.
At 700+ pages it is perhaps not for the faint-hearted but it does explore the arguments for and against geo-engineering and its application to our planet and its worsening climate problems.
I thoroughly enjoyed it!
