The Midnight Library (1)

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

I have wanted to read this book for a while now and so today I did and I am so glad I had the time to just sit quietly and devour it in one go. It is a fantastic read, it is thought provoking, emotional, uplifting, sad and deeply meaningful.

I don’t believe in the other dimensions theory, that other versions of ourselves live another life elsewhere, but I do believe in the power of one small choice or decision in life changing our whole future and existence. I can understand why Nora had a book full of regrets, for she never let herself do anything in life, she said no to everything and so this left her living a life where she was alone and no one cared about her, so she felt like she was better off not being in it anymore.

But the truth was, that people did care and Nora just existing had in small ways affected other people’s lives and so as she picked these other lives that she could have lived, she began to realise this and she wanted to live. I think that even if some of the other lives appeared perfect at first, ultimately they were not, by gaining some things, she lost other things and people.

Nora was shown that you can’t live your life for other people and their dreams and that whilst people’s choices can affect others, everyone has the power to change their lives and live a better version, or at least a different version of themselves.
