The Outsider

The Outsider by Albert Camus

This was a very simple story, easy to read and very bland in most parts with equally bland characterless characters.

But it was through the court case that I finally understood how he we being persecuted for not being emotional at his mother’s death. He was branded as unfeeling and a monster, if that were to happen today he would most definitely be on the spectrum and treated fairly. To others he was just odd and different, people didn’t understand different, some still don’t.

My biggest question is, did Raymond always intend to kill the Arab. He knew Meursault was impressionable and vulnerable and very easily manipulated, by getting him onside to agree that the woman had cheated him and deserved to be punished, to write the letter, Meursault was cast as his accomplice.

By placing the gun in his hands and then not taking it back (I had questioned, had Raymond taken back the gun before it happened) thinking it strange. He effectively led Meursault to do his bidding.
