When I Was Ten

When I Was Ten by Fiona Cummins

I read this book in a matter of hours it was that gripping, I didn’t and couldn’t put it down until id read the last page. A fantastic plot, centred around two sisters, 12 year old Shannon and 10 year old Sara who are treated horrifically by their parents, unbeknownst to their community who all believe them to be upstanding members of the community. They never really inflict physical injuries upon them, it’s more the neglect and emotional abuse they are subjected to everyday, the fear and intimidation that the sisters feel every moment in that house.  Then one horrific night, their parents are brutally murdered by Sara, whilst Shannon looks on.

Twenty one years later Sara has a new identity and family of her own and Shannon has appeared in the media wanting to find her sister and make peace. The sister’s childhood best friend, Brinley is now a reporter, but she was there that night also and she has secrets, all three of them do that only they know.

The story is fast paced and addictive, I just kept turning the pages, not moving a muscle, I was immersed in the lives of Sara and Brinley. There are many surprises in store and stunning revelations, though some not too surprising really and some shockers there at the end.

I highly recommend this fantastic dramatic crime novel that tells a highly addictive tale, that will leave you gripped to the very end.
